Social Dancesport Beginners

Dancesport Spectacular

Big–time Ballroom dancing with all the glitz and glamour, comes to Palmerston North on Saturday 17th August. Competition dancers of all ages from throughout New Zealand including N.Z. Champions, will compete in Dancesport.

Dancesport Spectacular is a highly professional, brilliant-sporting spectacle that has increased in popularity and status, and is  one of the highlights of the N.Z. dancing calendar. It is a combination of glitz, glamour, dynamic dancing, exciting costumes and artistry combined with a high level of fitness. Ballroom has the elegance, grace and poise of the debonair men and elegant women, while Latin American is dynamic, exciting and spectacular – a combination of bronzed, hot, sizzling bodies moving with great passion.

A magnificent spectacle – not to be missed.

Big–time Ballroom dancing with all the glitz and glamour, comes to Palmerston North on Saturday 26th August. Over 150 aspiring, enthusiastic, competition dancers from throughout New Zealand (ages ranging from 6 to 76) including N.Z. Champions, will compete in a sport that is on the increase.

Shirley is back from the dance training camp and the Adriatic Pearl Championships held in Dubrovnik, Croatia.  Very motivating, learning from some of the worlds top teachers and current & past World Champions.  Wonderful end to the week with a gala dinner & showcase in the Kings Landing Castle.

A big hello from Shirley.  I've just returned from a week of Pro Dance Camp in the USA - always very motivating, being able to bounce off some of the worlds top teachers, discuss different outlooks on teaching processes, question & answer times, new choreography ...   also fun times with Salsa & Bacchata lessons in Cuba (35C - 100% humidity - no air conditioning, just fans - now that's what you call a true LATIN SWEAT SESSION)

Congratulations to all dancers & teachers at the Shirley Wall Academy of Dance for a very successful 2016.  Winners of the Top Studio at the Rose City Dancesport Festival; winners of NZ Dancesport Titles; 100% pass success rate in all dance exams; led the way as the first dance studio in NZ to successfully train dancers for Amateur Theory Tests with the NZFDT Inc; had some fantastic social dance trips including Dance Camps. 

Leading the way in New Zealand Dance - on 2 July 2016, the Shirley Wall Academy of Dance was the first dance studio to train dancers who completed Amateur Theory Tests with the NZFDT Inc.  CONGRATULATIONS to Esmeralda Young, Vivencio Samblaceno, Jr, Dominique Curtis & Nathan Haxton who passed their Amateur Theory tests with Distinction or Merit.

Congratulations to Tim & Jeanine Willink gaining an Honours Pass with top marks in their Oscar New Vogue exams.

CONGRATULATIONS to the members of our dance studio that scooped the pool for Palmerston North in the Rose City Ballroom Dancing Festival on the 8th September.  You did us proud with 23 - 1sts, 20 - 2nds and 9 - 3rds, gained in Ballroom, Latin American, American Smooth, Swing and New Vogue. To top that off - a well deserved 2nd in the Inter Studio Teams Match.

A big hi from Shirley to our great dancing family. I have just returned to NZ after attending dance workshops and lessons in the USA, Europe and Scandinavia. A lot of new work and ideas to put into the dance studio for you all to enjoy and benefit from. Look forward to seeing you all this week :)

Shirley is honoured to be asked to adjudicate at the Australian Pro/Am Championships and the East Coast Classic Championships in Sydney, Australia on the 5th & 6th November 2011. She is looking forward with much excitement to being there :)
